'Not enough': Bill Cosby sentence sets off commenters

Bill Cosby’s fall from grace arrived at a solemn milestone Tuesday in his sexual assault trial. The 81-year-old comedian was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison by a Pennsylvania judge who designated the one-time icon as a “sexually violent predator.”

Comments immediately poured into Yahoo when the news broke, with the majority condemning Cosby as well as what was perceived as too light a sentence:

“Had he not been a famous television comedian he would be spending the remainder of his (short) life in prison. At 81, who knows if he even makes it out after 3 to 10 years, but it should have been closer to 30,” wrote one commenter.

“Had this been an average guy, drugging women, he would’ve gotten life in prison,” echoed another top-trending comment.

Another wrote: “From the beginning, Cosby hasn’t shown a second of remorse. 3 years is not enough.”

The sentence also sparked confusion: “What’s 3 to 10? Does he ‘Spin the Wheel’ to see the exact amount?”

Largely absent from the Yahoo comments section was any sympathy for Cosby, once a beloved TV icon.
