EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Brad Garrett is set as a new series regular opposite Gina Rodriguez in the upcoming second season of ABC’s comedy series Not Dead Yet.

From creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson, Not Dead Yet is based on Alexandra Potter’s 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up. It follows Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a broke and newly single self-described disaster who writes obituaries at her local newspaper alongside her best friend and her nemesis boss. The twist…she can see the dead people she’s writing about, and they offer her life advice – whether she wants it or not.

More from Deadline

Garrett will play Duncan Rhodes, the owner/publisher of the SoCal Independent newspaper, among many other successful businesses. He is also the father of Nell’s boss Lexi (Lauren Ash). Duncan is a total master of the universe. He has exuberant confidence and charisma and at the same time is completely out of touch with how normal people live – but he doesn’t know that. He thinks everyone is probably considering space travel for their next vacation. No one is comfortable telling him he’s out of touch, or that he’s not a great father, until he meets Nell.

Johnson and Windsor executive produce with Rodriguez, Dean Holland, Wonderland Sound and Vision’s McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh. The series is produced by 20th Television, part of Disney TV Studios.

Season 2 of Not Dead Yet premieres Wednesday, February 7 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC with next-day streaming on Hulu.

This marks Garrett’s return to ABC where he starred on the comedy Single Parents. Three-time Emmy winner for his role as Robert Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, he most recently co-starred on Apple’s comedy series High Desert and appeared in a guest-starring role in Pete Davidson’s Bupkis on Peacock. On the film side, Garrett was most recently seen in Cha Cha Real Smooth directed by Cooper Raiff and starring Dakota Johnson, as well as Wildflower with Jean Smart and Dash Mihok. He’s repped by UTA, Entertainment 360 and Gendler Kelly.
