Norwood resident to compete in the season 4 finale of 'Lego Masters.' Here's how to watch
A Greater Cincinnati resident has made it to the season finale of a reality show based on a popular children's toy.
Norwood resident Paul Wellington, a social media specialist at the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library, and his sister Nealita Nelson are one of three teams competing in the season 4 finale of "Lego Masters," which airs at 9 p.m. ET Thursday on Fox.
The reality series follows 12 "Lego enthusiasts" teams competing against each other in ambitious brick-building challenges to win $100,000, the title of Lego Masters and a Lego trophy, per the show's website. The winning team will also see their final build transformed into a set, which will be displayed at a Lego flagship store.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wellington has been building with Legos since he was 3 or 4. Now the 32-year-old Milwaukee native is part of one of the "best Lego-building teams on the planet," actor, producer and show host Will Arnett said during the episode 1 intro.
"The key is, we played the game," Wellington told the newspaper. "We listened to the judges. That's how we got where we are today."
Before the show, Wellington was featured in the book "The Lego Architect" by Tom Alphin and Brick Architect, a site covering all things Lego-building. One of Wellington's most famous designs, "Brickville," a microscale city that spanned 68 baseplates, was displayed three times at the Brickworld Chicago Lego convention.
Wellington was encouraged several times to apply for the show by "Lego Masters" staff after seeing his Lego creations on Flickr and Instagram, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Wellington said he decided to go on the show to prove to himself that he could build other things besides small cities.
"All the builds in the finale are going to be great," he said. "Just tune in to see who actually wins."
