Northlight Theatre’s 2024-25 season includes ‘Little Women’ and ‘Prayer for the French Republic’
Northlight Theatre, long based at the North Shore Center for the Arts in Skokie, has announced its 2024-25 subscription season.
The slate from artistic director BJ Jones opens with Daniel Jamieson’s “The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk” (Sept. 5 to Oct. 6) billed as a “whimsical play with music” about artist Marc Chagell and his relationship with his poet wife Bella; music is by Ian Ross. No director has been announced.
The holiday show is a new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic “Little Women” (Nov. 29 to Dec. 29), penned by the prolific and popular writer Lauren Gunderson and directed by Georgette Verdin.
From Jan. 23 to Feb. 23, 2025, Northlight will stage Lloyd Suh’s “The Heart Sellers,” a play about the Asian immigrant experience in the 1970s. Helen Young directs.
And then in the spring, Northlight will co-produce with Chicago’s Theater Wit the first local production of Joshua Harmon’s hit Broadway play “Prayer for the French Republic,” about multiple generations of French Jews across numerous tumultuous years, as directed by Theater Wit’s Jeremy Wechsler.
That high-profile show, likely to generate much interest given the response on Broadway earlier this year, will run at Northlight from April 10 through May 11, 2025.
Northlight also said that one more show on the season is yet to be announced.
