"Open since 1876, this historic public market has everything to make a foodie smile," noted the article. "Made up of local merchants and farmers, with such delectable treats as fresh pierogies and vegan soul food."
The North Market contains more than 30 vendors, with plans to add eight to 10 more as part of the Merchant Building development now underway on the market's former parking lot.
Leading USA Today's lineup was Easton Public Market in Easton, Pennsylvania, "the oldest, continuous open-air market in the United States," according to the article.
Also on the list: Eastern Market, Detroit (No. 2); Reading Terminal Market, Philadelphia (3); Midtown Global Market, Minneapolis (4); Boston Public Market, Boston (5); Lancaster Central Market, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (8); Historic Square Market, San Antonio (9); and Pike Place Market, Seattle (10).
