Margo Candelario, an artist and author residing in North High Shoals, will entertain a reception for an art exhibit Thursday in Watkinsville.

The reception runs 6-8 p.m. at Dory’s Hearth & Home, 37 Greensboro Highway. The exhibit runs through Aug. 31.

The solo exhibition showcases Candelario’s recent mixed media and textile works.

In her artist statement, Candelario said the exhibit reflects her “personal experience with gentrification, displacement and farming not only from what our local neighbors may be experiencing but from one continent to another.”

The work features city and rural landscapes that highlights problems and solution in the form of storytelling.

The show is Candelario’s first in Georgia since 2007, although she has exhibited in other parts of the country.

While she is an artist and has published books and poetry, Candelario is also associated with Young Female Farmers, a family farming business that began in 2006 with her three daughters and mother. The vegetable farm is located at her home in Oconee County.
