North Country Trail volunteers in the Beaver Valley to help with national clean-up effort

WAMPUM ― Local volunteers in the North Country Trail Association will take part Sept. 23 in the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands.

The Wampum Chapter of the North Country will join thousands of volunteers across the country in trail maintenance and planting projects, trash pick-ups, and other activities aimed at restoring and caring for our public lands to celebrate the 30th annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD).

On that day, the Wampum Chapter will lead a National Public Lands Day Waterfall Hike on public lands.

The volunteer-guided hike will follow the NCT Slippery Rock Gorge trail to Walnut Flats. After a break to catch their breath, hikers will return back, taking a nearly one-mile detour to see the waterfalls.

"Our aim is to get people out on and interested in the North Country National Scenic Trail," the group said in a press release.

The public is invited, meeting up at 9 a.m. that day at McConnells Mill park's Hell's Hollow parking lot at 1496 Shaffer Road, Portersville.
