Nonesuch Records to Celebrate 60th Anniversary With Festival Programming, Vinyl Reissues and More

Nonesuch Records is celebrating its 60th birthday in a big way.

Founded in 1964, the label has lined up several activations to honor the milestone and carry it through 2024. The anniversary will include activations at Knoxville, Tenn.’s Big Ears Festival, a partnership with Vinyl Me, Please for reissues, playlists, video content, and Nonesuch merchandising.

First up will be Nonesuch’s programming slate at Big Ears, taking place from March 21-24. The event will feature 15 current and past artists signed to the label performing at various venues including Rhiannon Giddens, Tyondai Braxton, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Kronos Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Laurie Anderson, Sam Amidon, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Mary Halvorson, Robin Holcomb, Wayne Horvitz, Ringdown, Davónte Tines, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, and Yasmin Williams.

Nonesuch has also partnered with Vinyl Me, Please for The Paragon Series, which sees 12 reissues from acts including The Black Keys, Stephen Sondheim, Philip Glass and more. The label will separately reissue records starting this month including Wilco’s “A Ghost Is Born” and Gustavo Santaolalla’s “Ronroco.”

Additionally, Nonesuch has launched a video series entitled “Nonesuch Selects,” which features the imprint’s artists parsing through records from the label’s archives. A playlist featuring more than 750 tracks from the Nonesuch archives was launched on streaming services, and the Nonesuch store will feature merch including crewneck sweatshirts and tees.

“We spend most of our time looking into the future, working with artists on their next releases—so an anniversary gives us a chance to reflect on what has been accomplished, as well as where we are headed,” says David Bither, who has been president of Nonesuch since 2017 and worked at the imprint since 1995. “It also gives us a welcome opportunity to work closely with some of our longtime friends in the music community.”
