Noah Wyle To Headline ‘The Pitt’ Drama Series At Max; R. Scott Gemmill Set As Showrunner

Max has given a 15-episode, straight-to-series order to drama The Pitt, starring and executive produced by Noah Wyle (ER, The Librarians). R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles, ER) will serve as showrunner of the series, from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television.  The project marks a reunion for Wyle, Gemmill and Wells, who all worked together on ER.

The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.

The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP is under an overall deal. Gemmill will write the first episode and executive produce the series alongside Wyle, Wells and JWP’s Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.

Wyle is perhaps best known for playing Dr. John Carter in ER, which Gemmill and Wells executive produced. Wyle also starred in TNT’s sci-fi series Falling Skies as well as TNT’s The Librarian franchise. He is currently executive producing The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the CW’s upcoming spinoff of the fantasy adventure series.

Gemmill is coming off a 14-season run as writer-executive producer on NCIS: Los Angeles, which wrapped its final season in May. He’s currently a writer and executive producer on Call Me God, a television adaptation of the DC sniper Audible series which is in development at Paramount+.
