NNAMDÏ Drops Anxiety-Ridden New Song “Anti”: Stream

NNAMDÏ has dropped “Anti,” the latest offering from his upcoming album, Please Have a Seat. It arrives with an unnerving music video directed by Austin Vesley in which the Chicago multi-instrumentalist personifies his experiences with anxiety and trauma in order to confront those issues.

Despite its calming, piano-driven melodies, “Anti” finds NNAMDÏ at his wit’s end. “Never trust a soul, I know it’s gotta hurt,” he admits. “I’ll commit myself before I call for help/ All I really heard are broken promises.” Watch the video below.

In a statement, NNAMDÏ addressed the message of the song and video. “I really like teetering on the edge of playful and unsettling,” he explained. “The song/video is a journey through how generational and childhood trauma can manifest itself in different ways as an adult, especially if never confronted. Basically the things that help create your origin story.”

Vesley added, “What excited me about adapting a treatment written by Nnamdi was that it had so many of the elements that make his music great — playfulness and surprise, some darkness and contrasts, depth in a short time frame — and also that it was clearly coming from a very personal place for him.”

Please Have a Seat is out on October 7th; pre-orders are ongoing. It follows NNAMDÏ’s November EP Are You Happy, and his last full-length was 2020’s BRAT. He’ll be touring behind the album in October and November. Grab your seats via Ticketmaster.
