NJPW New Japan Cup Updates: Will Ospreay Out, Quarterfinals Set
The 2023 New Japan Cup continues, and one of the top stars in the bracket has been taken out of the competition.
On March 15, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that former IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay suffered a shoulder injury in his second-round match against Mark Davis. At a press conference ahead of the March 15 event, Davis announced that Ospreay, his United Empire stablemate, was out of the tournament, and he would be taking his place in the quarterfinals. As of this writing, it is unclear how long Ospreay will be unable to compete.

Meanwhile, the competition continued in Okayama on Wednesday. Shota Umino defeated Zack Sabre Jr., and David Finlay won his second-round match against Great-O-Khan. As a result, the matchups for the quarterfinal round have been confirmed. On March 17, Tetsuya Naito will face SANADA, and Mark Davis will take on EVIL. The next day, Finlay will face Umino, while Hirooki Goto will battle Tama Tonga. The winners of these matchups will face off on March 19.
