NJ Police Officer Nails the 'Cupid Shuffle'

The police officers out in Tom's River, New Jersey are doing more than just protecting and serving ... they're also shuffling and grooving!

Tom's River PD held their inaugural National Night Out, which took place Tuesday at Shelter Cove park.

Tom's River PD also happens to be the department that has dealt with celebrity drama in the past, including the fights between "Jersey Shore" star JWoww and her estranged husband Roger Mathews.

National Night Out aims to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make "neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live," according to a description of the event.

We're told tons of families from the community came out to watch K-9 and Motorcycle Unit demonstrations, as well as ESU, Fire and First Aid displays.

Along with the official stuff, there was some entertainment provided; including bounce houses, face-painting, music and food.

We're told one of the highlights of the night was Officer Michael Cassidy doing the "Cupid Shuffle" with an adorable little girl ... and actually pulling off the famous line dance.

The video was posted to the Tom's River PD's Facebook page, and has been racking up views and comments, especially from the mother of the little girl featured in the clip.

"That's my daughter in the yellow shirt and my nieces too," Karen Miller wrote.

She added, "Thank you so much to this Officer for breaking the ice and starting the dancing! The girls had a great time last night."

The "Cupid Shuffle" is a song off Cupid's 2007 R&B album, "Time for a Change."

The dance, which is similar to the "Cha Cha Slide," has become so popular over the years, that it was even used as Miami Dolphins' RB as his TD celebration dance. He was later fined for the shuffle.

Even though it has seen success, Cupid unfortunately couldn't capitalize off his famous track when he appeared on NBC's "The Voice" in 2012. He sang it for his audition on the show ... but unfortunately none of the judges turned their chairs around.
