The last time the WWE Universe saw Nikkita Lyons, she was writhing in pain in the NXT parking lot, bizarrely being ignored by many of her fellow Superstars. It was an attack without a known assailant — an attack that quickly became a mystery. When reports came out that Nikkita suffered major knee injuries that would shelf the up-and-coming star for the better part of a year, the WWE Universe realized we had a classic whodunit on our hands.

In fact, NXT backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell recently started digging deeper into who the mystery attacker could be, leading to this classic moment of investigative reporting on last night’s episode of NXT:

So many questions arise when you view this footage with a critical eye: Who attacked Nikkita? Who is the woman in the white car? Why are so many of her coworkers ignoring Nikkita rolling around on the asphalt in pain?

While this mystery is sure to unravel in the upcoming weeks and months, Nikkita Lyons took to social media yesterday to announce some good news:

“Surgery was a success… I’ll be back stronger than I’ve ever been,” Nikkita wrote to her Twitter followers from her hospital bed.

So that's the good news! The bad news is that she has a long road to full recovery and getting back in action.

The devastating knee injury, officially diagnosed as a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee, will sideline Nikkita for the better part of a year, which may hurt her high-impact wrestling style when she returns. Luckily, judging by the reactions to her post, she will have plenty of fan support in her recovery. Her Twitter post has garnered over 18,000 likes in less than a day — a testament to the connection she’s made with the WWE Universe since her debut.

At only 23 years old, Nikkita Lyons suffering an injury as catastrophic as hers is going to be considered a setback in her burgeoning career. However, recent WWE Superstars have proved that a major knee injury can never truly derail a career, even at a young age. Bayley, Seth Rollins, the Miz, Tegan Knox, and Logan Paul have all proven that a knee injury doesn’t have to be career-threatening — in fact, many Superstars go on after they are fully recovered to reach heights in WWE that they never thought possible.
