Nike's New SpongeBob x Kyrie Collab Will Have You Saying 'I'm Ready'
One does not simply deliver a Krusty Krab pizza in average, everyday shoes anymore. Moving forward, there will be a dress code, and it’s the new Nike Kyrie x SpongeBob SquarePants collaboration. The choice on which of the five new variations will round out your uniform is up to you, because all of them are exceptionally ridiculous and surprisingly fashionable. (Then again, the styles in the mix are the Kyrie 5 and the Kyrie 2, so that last part was a given.)
This latest collaboration with the world’s most recognizable sponge—plus his Bikini Bottom comrades—isn't the first time the Kyrie line has stepped in a somewhat strange direction. Take, for instance, the Krispy Kreme creation from a couple years back. It's all about having fun.
This release comes with five different variations, honoring five of the main characters from the show: Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, and of course, SpongeBob SquarePants. On top of a specific colorway for each character, a surprise waits on the inside of each shoe—a character face where your heel rests. Each of them are pretty fantastic in their own right, though those seafoam green Squidward kicks stand out a hair above the rest.
The whole lineup is due out globally on August 10, with the Kyrie 5 iterations (for SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward) priced at $130, and the Kyrie 2s (for Sandy and Mr. Krabs) at $110. Considering the popularity of the sneakers and the namesake characters featured on them, you'll want to mark your calendar. These kinds of collaborations have a reputation for disappearing before you can say "pineapple under the sea."
