‘Nightrise’ Pandemic Drama From Applebox & Legendary Set at Spike TV
On the heels of ordering Harvest as its first drama series in nine years, Spike TV continues to build up its drama development slate.
Its latest buy is Nightrise, from Legendary TV and Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig‘s Applebox Entertainment.Written by Oscar-nominated David Arata (Children Of Men), Nightrise marks the first project developed and sold by Applebox since it was launched in February with a two-year overall deal at Legendary TV. Details about the plot are being kept under wraps, but I hear the series is set against a global pandemic.
Emmy-nominated helmer Marshall (Game Of Thrones) is set to direct Nightrise, which he and Helwig executive produce.
Applebox also recently boarded Legendary TV’s USA Network pilot Poor Richard’s Almanack, which Marshall will direct as well as executive produce alongside Helwig.
Spike’s drama development slate also includes Emergency Broadcast from Legendary as well as When The Levee Breaks, from screenwriter Kurt Wimmer; The Crusaders, from Pierce Brosnan’s Irish DreamTime, Sennet Entertainment, Michael Finch and writer David Franzoni; Deep Web, with producer-director-writer Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures; The Chairman, based on the Stephen Frey bestseller; Red Mars from Vince Gerardis (Game Of Thrones), based on Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars Trilogy; and War At The Shore, based on Richard D. “Skip” Bronson’s book.
Marshall is repped by WME and David Gardner at Principato-Young Entertainment. WME also reps Applebox.
