“It’s only natural to be scared about the things that go bump in the night, but Nightmares of Nature isn’t a projection of the supernatural. Once you start looking at the natural world, you will find things as terrifying as anything in a horror movie,” Plimsoll boss Alan Eyres said in a statement. “To tell that story, we could not hope for better collaborators than Blumhouse. Combining the world’s greatest horror filmmakers with some of the world’s best natural history storytellers is a unique opportunity to create a more visceral, emotional point of entry to nature than anything we’ve seen before.”

What to Expect in Nightmares of Nature?

Described as a wildlife horror documentary, Nightmares of Nature will follow animal heroes who are battling to survive nature’s true-life horrors. It’s “a blend [of] natural history filmmaking through a horror lens.” It will be executive produced by Jason Blum, Chris McCumber and Gretchen Palek for Blumhouse along with Plimsoll’s Grant Mansfield, Alan Eyres, Tom Hugh-Jones and Martha Holmes.

The upcoming project won’t be Blumhouse’s first venture into making a documentary series. The studio has previously produced crime thriller documentaries such as 2019’s Smiley Face Killers: The Hunt for Justice for Oxygen, 2020’s A Wilderness of Error for FX, 2022’s and Worst Roommate Ever for Netflix.
