A Texas-based quick service restaurant known for its freshly made-to-order burgers as well as shakes, fries and breakfast fare recently opened its 12th Northeast Florida restaurant in Jacksonville.

Whataburger at 10600 San Jose Blvd. — near Interstate 295 in Mandarin — offers a drive-thru open 24/7 for late-night cravings.

Headquartered in San Antonio, Whataburger is known for its quarter-pound burgers grilled to order and topped with lettuce, three slices of tomato, four pickles, chopped onions, mustard, and ketchup. Its 5-inch bun also is a key brand selling point.

Whataburger highlights nine burgers on its menu. They include:

  • Whataburger with one, two or three meat patties ($8.99, $9.99 and $11.69): One, two or three large (5-inch) beef patties, tomato, lettuce, pickles, diced onions and mustard

  • Jalapeno and Cheese Burger ($9.79): Large beef patty, American cheese, jalapenos, tomato, lettuce, pickles, diced onions and mustard

  • Avocado Bacon Burger ($10.79): Large beef patty, American cheese, three bacon slices, avocado, tomato, diced onions and creamy pepper

But that's not all, the menu shows.

Whataburger lists 18 breakfast offerings ranging from biscuit or bun sandwiches to bowls, taquitos, cinnamon rolls and pancake platters. Among the choices are Taquito with cheese ($5.79), Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit ($5.89), Breakfast Platter ($7.09) and a Sausage and Egg Biscuit ($6.39).

Whataburger also features longtime favorites as well as limited-time menu items. Among the established favorites are the Sweet and Spicy Bacon Burger ($10.99), Whataburger Patty Melt ($10.79) and Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich ($10.89).

Limited-time offerings range from the Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit ($1.99) to the Southern Bacon Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($11.89) and Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich ($9.89).

Founded in 1950, Whataburger has at least 930 restaurants in 14 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

In Florida, the restaurant has 43 locations including six in Jacksonville, one each in Middleburg, Neptune Beach, Orange Park, Saint Johns, St. Augustine and Yulee.

Whataburger's drive-thru is open 24 hours. The dining room is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Breakfast is available overnight from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. daily, according to the restaurant's website.
