East New York‘s Amanda Warren has answered The Night Agent‘s call, as the first new cast addition for Season 2 the hit Netflix drama.

TVLine has learned that Warren will be playing Catherine Weaver, a veteran of the top-secret Night Action investigative program, who trains and oversees various agents including new recruit Peter Sutherland. “Smart, private and determined, Catherine is a fierce defender of her agents,” the official character description says, “but finds it difficult to earn Peter’s trust when he struggles with betrayal issues from his experiences in Season 1.”

Our sister site Deadline first reported on Warren’s casting.

In addition to her lead role on CBS’ gone-too-soon East New York, Warren’s TV credits include Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, Dickinson, NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary and The Leftovers, among other shows.

Based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, Season 1 of The Night Agent followed Peter Sutherland (played by Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI Agent who worked in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rang — until it did.

That call, from panicked cybersecurity expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), propelled both Peter and Rose into a fast-moving conspiracy that ultimately led all the way to the Oval Office. All the while, the heroic couple was dogged by not just a team of lovebird assassins, but an inscrutable bunch of White House bigwigs.

The Night Agent was famously renewed just six days after its March 23, 2023 release, after landing on Netflix’s in-house Top 10 list in no fewer than 93 countries. (“We literally got the [renewal] call the next morning” after that report came out, Ryan told TVLine at the time. “It’s all kind of shocking.”) The series went on to dominate Nielsen’s streaming Top 10 chart upon its debut, then held onto that No. 1 spot for two more weeks.

As for what Season 2 will entail… well, author Matthew Quirk has no second novel featuring FBI Agent Sutherland. “He’s written plenty of books, but nothing with these characters in this world,” Ryan noted. But, “I’ve certainly had some ideas, from the very beginning, of what we might do in a Season 2.”
