In a time where real life oddly feels like a twisted movie plot, a remake for Noughties self-isolation horror The Others has been confirmed, according to Deadline. And really, it resonates with the national mood right now.

It's been almost twenty years since the original version was released back in 2001 – which was directed by Vanilla Sky writer Alejandro Amenábar – starring Nicole Kidman and Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston.

Kidman plays a widow who hides her children away in an isolated mansion from the threat of a disease that causes photosensitivity. Arguably, though, the biggest difference between the film's plot and daily life under coronavirus lockdown in the UK is that the family believe their house is being haunted. Yikes.

Apparently, the story will be modernised and reinvented for the remake, but there is currently no release date.

"I am honoured to be able to work on my favourite horror film of all time, The Others, and to bring this reimagining to the big screen for new audiences," producer for the remake Renee Tab (who has worked on both Maps to the Stars and Cosmopolis) told Deadline.

"It is almost eerie and uncanny how timely the themes are today: self-isolation, paranoia and fear, and of course the intense desire to protect our children and ourselves from harm," she said. "We look forward to unraveling the layers behind lead character Grace, whose pain and demons draw viewers into a truly compassionate journey."

Though Kidman has not (yet) been tipped to return for the remake, she is set to star in six-episode TV thriller The Undoing, which also stars Hugh Grant. Based on the novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the six-part series sees Kidman reunite with Big Little Lies writer, David E Kelley in this new project.

The trailer shows Kidman's character, Grace, go from successful professional to a woman spiralling after shocking events, and it looks awesome.

Unfortunately, along with many exciting TV projects, The Undoing's release has been postponed to later this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, we can't wait.

The Undoing is set to air on HBO and Sky later this year.
