Nicole Kidman is among the more private celebrities we have today. That's not to say that she's rude or stand-offish, she just likes to keep her personal life as closed off from her public life as possible.
Kidman and husband Keith Urban do have two daughters, though. Their eldest, Sunday Rose, is 11, and their younger daughter, Faith Margaret, is eight. Kidman and Urban are usually especially guarded when it comes to their children, and with good reason given the impact that the spotlight can have.
Recently, though, Kidman shared a peek into her life as a mother, offering an image of herself with Sunday. The photo is an image of a gorgeous fall day as Kidman and her daughter stroll through a park. "Sunday walk with Sunday," she shared in the caption, adding the hashtags #MotherDaughter and #Happiness.
In the rare instances where Kidman does share photos of her daughters, she usually does so from the back, which is the case in this image. That way, their privacy is still protected.
Parenting as a celebrity presents plenty of unique challenges. Some parents allow their kids to be a part of their public personalities, while others, like Kidman, want their kids to have the most normal childhood possible.
In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year, Kidman explained that she tries to set boundaries around what her kids can and can't do. Those guidelines are designed to protect their youth, although they may resent their mom for imposing them in the first place.
"They don’t have a phone and I don’t allow them to have an Instagram," she said. "I try to keep some sort of boundaries."
The two children often accompany their parents on tours or movie sets, and they're both quite musical. Sunday plays the piano, and her sister plays the violin. Although both of their parents are in entertainment, Kidman isn't sure whether her daughters are destined for that world or not. For now, they're happy to just be kids and do normal kid stuff.
"You can’t really get kids into anything, I’ve realized," Kidman said. "You can push them a bit, but motivation is a really hard thing. I mean, nobody motivated me to be an actor; if anything they tried to deter me."
There's no magic bullet when it comes to good parenting, but it seems like Urban and Kidman are doing their best to make their home a normal one for their kids. As a parent, that's all you can really do for them.
