As months go by, our hopes for a Big Little Lies Season 3 grow ever smaller — but luckily, there’s a new show on the horizon promising to fill that void. Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman are starring in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, a TV series based on another novel by BLL author Liane Moriarty. There’s no release date set (yet), but here’s everything we do know about the upcoming series.

On Tuesday, Deadline confirmed that McCarthy is joining Kidman in the cast of Nine Perfect Strangers. The Moriarty novel is set at a wellness resort, and follows the story of “nine stressed city dwellers” looking for a new approach to life on a 10-day retreat. Kidman plays Masha, the resort director, while McCarthy plays Frances, a romance novelist who comes to the resort with a broken heart.

The similarities to Big Little Lies don’t stop with Moriarty and Kidman’s involvement in the Hulu show. David E. Kelley, the creator of Big Little Lies, will be helming Nine Perfect Strangers as well, and Big Little Lies production companies Made Up Stories and Blossom Films (owned by Bruna Papandrea and Nicole Kidman, respectively) will also be involved in the series.

Since its publication in 2018, Nine Perfect Strangers has enjoyed 13 weeks on the New York Times best seller list, and Lisa Scottoline perfectly sums up our feelings on this book in the New York Times Book Review. “If three characters were good in Big Little Lies, nine are even better in Nine Perfect Strangers.

We can’t wait to see who else will be joining this star-studded ensemble (there are eight more strangers to cast, after all!), and we’re already counting the days until an official trailer is released. With a Moriarty story, we’re guaranteed weeks of gasp-worthy episode endings, shocking reveals, and extensive fan theories on Reddit. Forget The Bachelor: the most dramatic season ever will be happening on Hulu whenever Nine Perfect Strangers comes out. Until then, we’ll just be re-reading the book (click the link below to join us!).
