Don’t you love when celebrities reveal interesting details about their past? Nicole Kidman just shared throwback photos that are making us feel real nostalgic — and making us want to watch Moulin Rouge on repeat. The Oscar-winning actress shared a pretty epic photoshoot on social media sharing that the glamorous shots actually helped her score her iconic role as Satine.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Kidman posted a series of seven photos. In the first, her long red hair hangs down in loose waves as she stares off into the distance. Subsequent photos in the series show her dressed in vintage glam style. “Who could have imagined that this photoshoot would lead to me being cast in #MoulinRouge,” Kidman captioned the pictures. “It was the first time I worked with @Bazluhrmann and @CatherineMartinDesigns when they took over editing an issue of @VogueAustralia.”

As fans of the 2001 jukebox musical know, Baz Luhrmann was the writer-director and Catherine Martin was an associate producer who did the film’s costume and production design. And clearly, Kidman made an impression on both during that chance magazine photoshoot. She would go on to play the courtesan and star of the famed Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris for the musical.

Maybe Kidman is feeling a little nostalgic about Moulin Rouge lately. In August 2019, she paid a visit to Broadway to attend the theater production inspired by Luhrmann’s film. While there, she and husband Keith Urban took time to pose with Tony Award-winning actress Karen Olivo, who plays Kidman’s role on Broadway, and Aaron Tveit, who stars as Christian — Satine’s love interest who was portrayed by Ewan McGregor in the film.

As for whether or not Kidman would consider reprising her role for a reboot (they are all the rage these days, after all), that remains to be seen. But it sounds like she’ll always treasure the role, regardless. “It’s just gorgeous,” she said in a conversation with McGregor in 2017 for Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series. “It’s such a great thing to share. I always say this: When you get to share something like that together, it’s yours forever.”
