Nicole Kidman, David E Kelley Re-Team for ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ at Hulu

Nicole Kidman is reuniting with “Big Little Lies” showrunner David E. Kelley and producer Bruna Papandrea for one more adaptation of a Liane Moriarty novel, this time at Hulu.

Ordered straight to series, the project is an adaptation of the “Big Little Lies” author’s most recent novel, “Nine Perfect Strangers,” published last September. Set at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation to nine stressed city dwellers, the series will star Kidman as the resort’s director Masha, a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies.

The series is the latest project Blossom Films, Made Up Stories and Endeavor Content.

Kelley will co-write and serve as co-showrunner on the series alongside “Edge of Tomorrow” screenwriter John Henry Butterworth. Kidman and Per Saari of Kidman’s Blossom Films banner and Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver of Made Up Stories also executive produce, as will Moriarty.

The project marks the third collaboration between Kidman, who both stars in and executive produces “Big Little Lies,” Kelley and Papandrea. The trio also has the limited series “The Undoing” in the works at HBO.

“Nine Perfect Strangers” is expected to debut in late 2020, and joins a slate of upcoming Hulu Originals that includes “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” “Looking For Alaska,” “Dollface,” “Reprisal,” “The Great” and a scripted series about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes starring Kate McKinnon.

For Moriarty, the “Nine Perfect Strangers” is just the latest one of her novels to get a small-screen adaptation. In addition to “Big Little Lies,” which will premiere its second season next month, an adaptation of “The Hypnotist’s Love Story” starring Heather Graham is currently in the pilot stage at ABC.
