Nicole Kidman Accepts Her Lifetime Achievement Award in a Gold Sequined Gown

Nicole Kidman accepted a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the American Film Institute in Los Angeles last night. For the career milestone, Kidman wore a gold gown befitting a Hollywood star.
The custom Balenciaga piece featured a dramatic, long train that puddled behind her, almost like liquid gold. The head-turning look matched the moment.
Styled by Jason Bolden, Kidman wore the statement gown with a gold watch, matching rings, and diamond hoop earrings. She kept her makeup natural and had her blonde hair styled in a side-parted wavy ’do.
Kidman has deftly delivered powerful style moments on the red carpet over the course of her decades-long career—many of them courtesy of the Spanish fashion house. She notably walked in the brand’s couture show last year, wearing a metallic silver gown. She also became a brand ambassador for the house last year, citing a bevy of key Balenciaga-clad life moments as fueling her decision. “Balenciaga has been with me through some of the most memorable events in my life, from my wedding to the Oscars red carpet,” Kidman said in a statement that lives on the brand’s website.
Accompanied to the ceremony by husband Keith Urban, Kidman accepted her AFI Lifetime Achievement award from fellow actor Meryl Streep (the two starred together in season two of Big Little Lies and the 2002 drama The Hours). Streep had nothing but kind words to deliver to Kidman, speaking fondly of watching Kidman shoot scenes for Big Little Lies. Streep said: “That’s the time when I really came within breathing distance of the formidable gifts Nicole has, and her process and her seismic bank of emotion she’s got locked up inside there and her stamina and her drive to be an artist and her discipline.”
In her moving speech, Kidman expressed a desire to continue doing what she loves. “I like to think that I’m just getting started, but it’s not true, because really, let’s just hope I’m in the middle—I’ve got my fingers crossed,” she said. “There’s so many more exciting young directors and voices that are completely original and need to be heard, and they have a lot to say. We need to give them a chance to say it and to hear them, and I am here, I am ready to roll up my sleeves. I am here always to support those voices.”
