Nicolas Cage and Wife Riko Shibata Hold Hands on Oscars 2024 Red Carpet

The couple have been married since 2021

Nicolas Cage strolled down the red carpet hand-in-hand with wife Riko Shibata at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday.

The couple appeared very close, with Cage, 60, sporting a classic tuxedo and Shibata, 28, donning a unique black and gray textured gown paired with a gem-covered black purse.

Cage, a Best Actor winner for Leaving Las Vegas and nominee for Adaptation, is slated to present during the 96th Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The Oscar-winning actor told Flaunt Magazine in October 2021 that he had met Shibata through mutual friends while in Shiga, Japan, where he was filming the 2021 movie Prisoners of the Ghostland.

Cage said on his brother Marc Coppola's radio show in August 2020 that he proposed to Shibata via FaceTime.

"She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven't seen her for six months," Cage said on the podcast. "We were really happy together and we were really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, 'Look, I wanna marry you,' and we got engaged on FaceTime," he said.

The actor also explained he gave Shibata a black diamond ring and mailed it to Japan after proposing.

"Her favorite color is black so she wanted the black gold, and the black diamond," he said at the time. "I found it and I customized and personalized it and I actually sent it to her via FedEx."

The couple tied the knot on Feb. 16, 2021 in a "very small and intimate wedding at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas," a rep for the actor told PEOPLE at the time.

The marriage is Cage's fifth. "I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time," he told the Los Angeles Times then.

Shibata and Cage went on to welcome their first child together, daughter August Francesca, on Sept. 7, 2022. This is the actor's third child; he is already a dad to sons Kal-El, 18, and Weston, 33, from previous relationships. Shibata, 28, is a first-time mom.

The 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 10, at 7 p.m. ET.
