Nicolas Cage is starting to open up about his recent short-lived marriage with Erika Koike, the makeup artist who Cage filed for divorce from just four days after their wedding.
“There was a recent breakup,” Cage, 55, said in an interview with The New York Times Magazine. “I don’t really want to talk about it. I was pretty upset about that and the way things happened.”
Cage and Koike applied for a marriage license and wed in Las Vegas on March 23. They had been dating since April 2018.
Just days after tying the knot, Cage sought an annulment on March 27, citing reasons that included being too drunk to understand his actions when he married Koike. The "Face/Off" actor said he and Koike drank “to the point of intoxication” before the wedding and argued he wasn’t aware of Koike’s “relationship with another person.”
A divorce was granted May 31 for the actor and Erika Koike, according to Clark County Nevada online records viewed by USA TODAY at the time.
This was the fourth marriage for Cage, who was wed to actress Patricia Arquette (1995-2001), Lisa Marie Presley (2002-2004), and Alice Kim (2004-2016). Cage and Kim have a son, 13-year-old Kal-El. The Academy Award winner has another son, 28-year-old Weston, from a previous relationship with Christina Fulton.
