Nicola Peltz Beckham Shares Favorite Wedding Memory After 2 Years of Marriage with Husband Brooklyn (Exclusive)

The 'Lola' director recalls a lighthearted moment with her grandmother that helped ease her wedding-day jitters

Nicola Peltz Beckham is reminiscing about her wedding to Brooklyn Beckham.

In an interview tied to her partnership with Snapple, the 29-year-old model and actress — who marked two years of marriage with her husband on Tuesday, April 9 — tells PEOPLE that when she looks back on her 2022 nuptials, one special memory comes to mind. She recalls how her grandmother helped ease her wedding-day nerves in an unexpected way.

"My Nani was my maid of honor," she says. "I remember … I get really nervous talking in front of people or in front of crowds, so I was nervous about that. But right before I walked down the aisle with my dad, I heard everyone clapping and cheering. It was because my Nani had her flowers and she was dancing down the aisle, and that makes me so happy."

Nicola also remembers being given some really great advice that helped her and Brooklyn, 25, feel more connected during the hecticness of their Palm Beach, Fla., wedding, where they welcomed nearly 600 guests.

"Someone gave us advice, which I think is the best advice for anyone who's soon to be married, to grab your partner and even if it's for two minutes, three minutes, but throughout the night and just be like, 'Oh my God,' " she says. "Just have a moment with them because I know sometimes at weddings, there's so much happening, so many people."

"Brooklyn and I ran off a few times, and I feel like those are the special moments," she adds.

Nicola — who recently made her directorial debut with the film Lola, which premiered in February — also reflected on how quickly the first two years of marriage flew by for her and Brooklyn.

"I can't believe we've been married two years," she tells PEOPLE, adding that she just loves being able to do life with her "best friend" by her side.

"Everyone is always was like, 'Oh, what does being married feel like?' This is genuinely how I feel. I feel like when you're on a sleepover or a play date and it's like, 'Oh, can they sleep over again?' And you just are on a never-ending sleepover play date. That's how we feel," she explains.

She adds of Brooklyn, "He really is my best friend. And I know that sounds silly, but that's how I feel."

On their second anniversary, the happy couple was showered with love from their family, including Brooklyn's parents, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. The retired soccer star, 48, shared two photos of Nicola and Brooklyn on his Instagram Stories in honor of the special occasion.

One photo showed the young couple posing next to each other on a boat. "Love you both. Happy anniversary you 2," David wrote. His second post featured a snapshot of Brooklyn carrying Nicola on his back as they posed on a beach by the ocean.

Victoria, 49, shared the same beach photo on her own Instagram Stories with the message, "Happy anniversary!!! We love you both so much!!!"

For their first anniversary last year, Brooklyn and Nicola celebrated with a small family gathering which included Victoria and David.

Nicola shared some photos from the celebration on Instagram at the time, writing, "Today was so amazing celebrating with our families!"

She also included a touching message for Brooklyn as she reflected on the milestone.

"I can’t believe it’s been a year since I walked down the aisle 🥹," she wrote. "I love you so much baby. I love being your wife. I couldn’t imagine my life without you 💘 you are everything I’ve ever dreamt of and I’m so happy I get my life with you."
