Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee dropping new album as Los Cangris in 2020 on heels of reconciliation

Nicky Jam and his former collaborator Daddy Yankee are officially putting their old group Los Cangris back together. EW has learned exclusively that the pair has an album in the works with a 2020 release, after a falling out over personal issues in 2004 ripped their personal and professional relationship apart.

Jam and Yankee have warmed up to each other slowly in recent years, performing at various concerts together including a live performance in Madison Square Garden with Bachata superstar Romeo Santos in 2018.

“Yankee is my battle brother, the past does not define who we are today, and making our fans happy is the main driver of this collaboration,” Jam said in a statement released by his label.

The pair, who are considered pioneers of the Reggaeton genre, released their first collaboration since their acrimonious split on Wednesday titled “Muevelo,” that’ll be featured on the soundtrack for Bad Boys For Life. Jam has a supporting role in the action film alongside Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Paola Nuñez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kate Del Castillo.

“Muevelo” features an interpolation of a fragment of the 1994 dancehall hit “Here Comes the Hotstepper” by Ini Kamoze. Yankee knows a thing or two about bringing back hits from the 1990s, he most recently found great success with a reimagination of Snow’s 1992 hit “Informer” titled “Con Calma” in 2019. Both tracks have another thing in common: both were produced by the Grammy-winning producers Play-N-Skillz.
