Nicki Minaj unveiled the first cover art for her upcoming album, Pink Friday 2, on Monday (Sept. 4). The Queen emcee can be seen in the photo riding a train through the skies of New York City. Nicki dons an oversized white sweatsuit, a diamond heart chain, and red and blonde hair. In the Instagram caption for the post, Minaj provided more details regarding the creation of the album artwork.
“Album cover #1 of 2. Look By Vêtements @vetements_official Guram, I love you. Thank you. Styling by @maherxjridi Hair by @arrogant_tae123, MUA Creative Direction Pat McGrath @patmcgrathreal, Queen Pat, thank you for being apart of this. Omg. Nicki also revealed a new release date for Pink Friday 2. She stated on Twitter that the project would arrive Nov. 17, 2023.
The Trinidad artist has been gearing up for the long-anticipated project with several singles. She started the album rollout in August 2022 when she dropped “Super Freaky Girl.” March 2023 saw the entertainer release “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” and “Last Time I Saw You” in September 2023, with the latter track featuring a much different tone than her previous PF2 singles. Nicki enters a more melancholy mood for the pop-rap song, exploring a theme of loss.
Pink Friday 2 is the sequel to the emcee’s debut album, Pink Friday. The album dropped in 2010 and featured guest appearances from Eminem, Kanye West, Natasha Bedingfield, will.i.am, Drake, and Lil Wayne (deluxe version).
Back in June 2023, Minaj paid homage to her debut album. She also told her fans to prepare themselves for the sequel that’s “well worth the wait.” The rapper also spoke about her success and her fans’ unwavering support.
“Dear Barbz, I’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you this for a few days,” she captioned the post. “Due to some really exciting news that I’ll share with you guys @ a later time, I’ve shifted the album date just a tad bit. Trust me, it’ll be WELL WORTH THE WAIT… but since I AM shifting the date just a tad, I’d like to give you guys a tiny SIP of some more album tea so that I don’t have to get cussed out so…here it goes: MY NEW ALBUM WILL BE RELEASED ON 11.17.23- and she shall be called: Pink Friday 2.”
“I love you guys so much. I am so grateful for the years of support & love you guys have given me. At times maybe I didn’t even deserve all that you have poured into me. Nonetheless, you. will. love. this. album. I will give tour deets closer to that time, but obviously the tour will start around the first quarter of 2024. I’ll also share the REAL album cover at a later date.”
