Nicki Minaj surprised the world when J. Cole appeared on her latest album Pink Friday 2. The Queens rapper shared some insight on their interactions along with an unknown fact about her song “FTCU” with regard to Drake.

Cole, who was featured on “Let Me Calm Down,” got the chance to hear “FTCU” early. “After I played him that song, I played him ‘FTCU,'” she told Ebro Darden during their Apple Music interview released on Thursday (Jan. 4). “I was like, ‘Yo, I don’t like playing my music, but I’ll let you hear another song.’ So I played him that. And when that second verse came in, his reaction is why that song is so high [on the tracklist].”

Minaj revealed that Drake, who is featured on “Needle” from Pink Friday 2, was initially considering using “FTCU” for his latest album For All The Dogs. “I sent it to him when I did it, because I loved the beat,” she said. “But I wasn’t sure about the chorus. So then when J. Cole was listening to it and he was bopping, and then the, ‘High heels on…’ when that dude was saying goodbye and that sh*t dropped. If you would’ve seen him, it was the dopest f**king thing.”

“He looked at me and he said, ‘I’ve never heard anything like that before,’” Nicki Minaj continued. “When you think about it, what haven’t you heard before? It’s simple words, but what struck me as so f**king dope was that he couldn’t articulate. He was just like, ‘I never heard that before. I ain’t never.’ But that’s what made me go, ‘Oh, this is something that I should just leave alone.’”

She was still apprehensive about the record because of the chorus and concerns over whether it could get played on the radio. Cole offered her a simple solution: “He was like, ‘Who cares?’ He was like, ‘Man, f**k the radio.’”

Pink Friday 2 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 228,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week. The album also features Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Lil Wayne, and more. Check out Pink Friday 2 below.
