Nicki Minaj delays 'Pink Friday 2'

On Tuesday (Oct. 24), Nicki Minaj took to social media to announce that Pink Friday 2 would no longer be released on Nov. 17. She also debunked the rumor that Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s Welcome 2 Collegrove — which is set to drop on that day — was a factor in her decision.

“I have changed my album date,” she stated in an Instagram livestream. “Now, it’s been changed for some time now behind the scenes. So, as you can tell, Weezy and 2 Chainz, they announced their date, and you know how me and Weezy play. He would never do that if that was my album date, so I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of that. ‘Cause I saw some of you guys questioning that.”

She continued by confirming when Pink Friday 2 would now be arriving. “I’ve changed my album date… and it’s for a reason that the Barbz will be in agreement with, trust me. When I tell you why I’ve changed it, you will be like, ‘You did the right thing, Nick.’ The new album date for this incredible body of work that I’m so proud of is on a very special day to me and to the Barbz,” Nicki added. “Pink Friday 2, I’m so happy to announce, will be out on my birthday, Dec. 8.”

Nicki’s fifth studio LP will follow 2018’s Queen, which consisted of 19 songs with appearances from Wayne, Eminem, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Future, and more. That project debuted at No. 2 with 185,000 first-week album-equivalent units sold. Queen also crossed the platinum mark. Since then, Nicki remained at rap’s forefront via a string of loose singles, including “MEGATRON,” “Yikes,” “Do We Have A Problem?” with Lil Baby, and “Super Freaky Girl,” the last of which topped the Billboard Hot 100.
