Nick Wayne is hopeful that the numbers game will be the difference maker for the Patriarchy heading into Double or Nothing on Sunday.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Nick Wayne recently sat down with Rick Ucchino of Cageside Seats. When asked about his storied history with Swerve Strickland, Wayne reflected on his early days with DEFY, calling Swerve someone he idolized at the time.

“I would show up to the DEFY shows, and he was there since day one,” Nick Wayned recalled. He was the main event at the first show, and he would then go on to main event all the shows. Watching him [at] 14 years old, sneaking into these shows, and watching him in the corner of the room, I ended up idolizing him.

“I saw what he was doing on the independents and everything that he’s achieved and where he was going, I was like, wow, this guy is awesome. I looked up to him; I wanted to be like him, [and] I wanted to do the things that he did. Getting to share the ring with him and kind of feeling that energy of his, and then seeing everything he did and the level that he pushed me to… it [was] a surreal thing to see all the stuff that he was doing.”

Nick Wayne faces Swerve Strickland tonight on AEW Dynamite

Years later, Nick Wayne will step into the ring with Swerve Strickland later tonight on AEW Dynamite. While Wayne is proud of what Swerve has accomplished, he’s making his intentions very clear.

“Now, he’s the face of AEW. The AEW champion. He started in a new era in AEW,” Nick Wayne said. “I’m proud of him. I congratulate him, but at the end of the day, Double or Nothing, we’re going into a war with Christian [Cage]. It’s all of us against him. We’re coming for blood, still. We’re coming for the world title.”
