Nick News series finale special to honor Linda Ellerbee's 25 years on Nickelodeon
After 25 years on Nickelodean, Nick News With Linda Ellerbee is coming to an end Dec. 15. To honor the longest-running kids’ news show in TV history, Nickelodean will air a series finale entitled “Hello, I Must Be Going: 25 Years of Nick News with Linda Ellerbee.” In the one-hour special, Ellerbee will discuss the story and philosophy behind the program, as well as look back on the notable moments from the show’s history.
Ellerbee created Nick News in order to help children understand the Gulf War in the early ’90s. Since then, the program has received critical acclaim for its coverage of current events in the U.S. and around the world, airing episodes on topics like 9/11, HIV and AIDS, Hurricane Katrina, sexuality, and racism.

The program has received 21 Emmy nominations, won two Peabody Awards, and in 2009, became the first children’s television program to receive an Edward R. Murrow Award for Network News Documentary for their episode “Coming Home: When Parents Return from War.”
The finale will air Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon, Ellerbee’s last show before her retirement.
“Possibly the most important truth I take with me is the firm knowledge that you are never too old to learn from young,” Ellerbee said. “I’ve been a television journalist for 43 years, and I’m pretty sure I’ve been the luckiest journalist on television. It’s been a great ride, all of it, but it’s time to go, and I go smiling.”
