Nick Kroll, John Mulaney look back on their 'universally reviled' short-lived comedies

Years before writing and starring in the Broadway sensation Oh, Hello, Nick Kroll and John Mulaney were headlining two of the “more universally reviled shows on television.”
The long-time friends and collaborators recently appeared together on Entertainment Weekly: The Show, where they discussed Kroll’s 2007 ABC sitcom Cavemen and Mulaney’s 2014 Fox sitcom Mulaney.
Kroll recalls knowing his show based on the popular GEICO ads was in trouble when Whoopi Goldberg easily recognized him despite his four hours worth of makeup. “And the show came out and I would say it was one of the more universally reviled shows on television,” he quipped.
“Until…,” interjected Mulaney, sending them both into a fit of laughter when the topic switched to the series he starred in and co-created, which earned the distinction of landing on EW’s 5 Worst Shows of 2014 list. He added, “Couldn’t have been more well-intentioned, but a trainwreck, indeed.”
