Nick Carter has broken his public silence on the Dec. 23 death of his sister, Bobbie Jean Carter.

“It may take a lifetime to fully process the loss my family has endured over the years – most recently, with the sudden passing of our sister Bobbie Jean,” he wrote today on Instagram. “I am completely heartbroken. Thank you for all your love and kind words. We are reminded again that life is precious, fleeting and to cherish the time we have with the ones we love. I know she is finally at peace with God. I love you BJ.”

Bobbie Jean’s cause of death was not revealed. The tragedy comes a little over a year after Aaron was found dead in his home at age 34. Aaron’s cause of death was revealed to be drowning in his bathtub after inhalation of difluoroethane. This flammable gas is often used as the propellant in cans of compressed air and ingesting alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax.

Bobbie Jean was a featured family member in E!’s reality series House of Carters. Over the years, Bobbie Jean opened up about her addiction problems, documenting her struggles on the show and running into legal trouble for theft earlier this year. Although Bobbie Jean was not in the spotlight like brothers Nick and Aaron, she worked alongside her siblings, being credited as a stylist for Aaron back in the early 2000s.
