Nick Cannon and La La Anthony discussed their business acumen Sunday, Nov. 5 as headliners of the inaugural ForbesBLK Summit In Atlanta, where they were joined by several Black and Brown business leaders to “ignite critical conversations” surrounding the theme The Future of Black Entrepreneurialism: Convening Culture, Creativity and Community.

During a conversation with Forbes Chief Content Officer Randall Lane, Cannon discussed his plans to partner with African brands and invest in businesses from the rich continent, calling potential collaborations “limitless.” Meanwhile, La La opened up about her experience auditioning for a television, signing a contract, and even being told she was a shoe-in only to be told by her manager that producers “went in another direction.” This, however, freed the former MTV VJ up for another audition the following week for Power.

“I booked Power, and that’s when my life and my acting career really changed,” she told the audience. “We may not get it when we want it, but we get it when we’re supposed to.”

Other attendees of note included:

  • John Hope Bryant, CEO, Operation Hope

  • Ron Busby Sr., President & CEO, U.S. Black Chambers, Inc.

  • Shelly Cayette, Chief Commercial Officer, Cleveland Cavaliers

  • Tamira Chapman, President & CEO, Storehouse
