Nick Cannon Gives Update on Wendy Williams' Marriage amid 'Negativity' and Gossip

As Wendy Williams continues to heal at home after suffering Graves’ disease complications, she is focusing solely on the positive.

On Monday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show, guest host Nick Cannon gave an update on Williams, who “is taking a necessary, extended break from her show,” with audiences.

“I talked to her and honestly, she sounded amazing y’all. We jumped on the phone and first thing she said: ‘Nick Cannon, how you doing?’ ” said Cannon, 38.

“Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect at first. But her spirit was so big, it was so amazing,” he said.

He also seemingly shot down rumors that have been circulating about possible marriage woes between Williams, 54, and her husband, Kevin Hunter.

“And you know what was also really awesome? I had a conversation with her and her whole family and she said she wanted to speak as a family unit. Her, I talked to Kevin, little Kevin, they said they all good,” he said about speaking to Williams, Kevin and their son, Kevin Hunter Jr. “The love and the passion is still there ’cause that’s what you need in times like this is your family to stick together with you.”

Cannon said that the conversation between him and Williams “got a little emotional” as he touched on his own battle with autoimmune disease lupus.

“It did because when I spoke to her she just said she feels y’all love, you know what I mean? And she knows that there’s probably a lot questions that haven’t been answered and stuff. But as someone who also deals with an autoimmune condition — I was diagnosed with lupus before — I know when you go through these things and these flair-ups and stuff, you never know,” he said. “It’s day by day, y’all. You know, you one day could be a strong day and the next day you can’t even get out of bed.”

Thankfully, Cannon said that Williams “sounded so strong and she wanted to thank each and every one of you.”

“We was tearing up and everything because she said something to me that was actually really powerful. Because you know me and Wendy had a love-hate relationship over the years. But it’s nothing but love because I love my queen and when she said this, she said there can be negativity out there and she hears the things about people talking about her family unit and what’s going on and she was like, ‘You know what, we don’t want to bring that negative energy when you’re trying to heal,’ ” said Cannon.

He continued, “You need your family and you need your friends in moments like this and that’s when love is truly tested. When you know I’ma stick through this regardless of what’s going on, we right there. So I spoke to everybody as a unit and we’re going to give her the same type of love because it’s all about this unit. She said, ‘Have fun, but don’t get too comfortable because I’m coming back.’ “

Last week, it was announced that Cannon would be guest-hosting Williams’ talk show from Feb. 4-Feb. 6.

Almost a year after she took three weeks off following her announcement that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid, in addition to thyroid issues of which she was previously aware, the show announced Jan. 18 that Williams “is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.”

“As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend,” reads the statement posted on the show’s official Instagram page. “Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment.”

“Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital,” continues the statement. “Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being. Wendy thanks everyone in advance for their well-wishes and for respecting her and The Hunter Family’s privacy during this time.”

Alongside her family, Cannon is cheering on Williams as she recovers.

“I’m gonna say it like this: We gonna take the I out of illness and add we and get wellness,” said Cannon.
