Nick Cannon Defends Kevin Hart, Calls Out Other Comedians For Past Homophobic Tweets

As the dramatic saga involving Kevin Hart stepping down as Oscars host after old homophobic tweets resurfaced, Nick Cannon has decided to come to the defense actor-comedian by posting tweets containing homophobic language from comedians Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, and Amy Schumer.

In a string of tweets, Cannon called out the female comedians for their past homophobic tweets. In a past tweet from Handler she used the term “fag bird” and Cannon commented, “Interesting I wonder if there was any backlash there.” His commentary was similar to Silverman who once tweeted, “I dont mean this in a hateful way but the new bachelorette’s a faggot” and Schumer who wrote, “Enjoy skyfall fags. I’m bout to get knee deep in Helen Hunt #thesessions”

The comedians have yet to respond to Cannon’s posts.

Cannon is one of the many actors and comedians who have supported Hart after he posted an Instagram video of him defending his homophobic tweets from over a decade ago. Others supporting the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor including Cedric the Entertainer and DL Hughley who got into it with Pose star Indya Moore on Twitter.

After a series of tweets adamantly defending Hart, Moore responded to Hughley saying, “Your jokes divide people and that’s why you fail as a comedian. By all means don’t apologize, you can be all the clown you want but you will never lead with bullshit.”

Hughley fired back with more vitriol, “Fail!! Lol!!!! I make a living doing what love, put kids through college, paid for my homes, and travel the world, and still don’t give a shit what a pussy like u thinks.”

Hart’s homophobic tweets have sparked divisiveness and is bringing out some of the worst toxic masculinity from comedians on social media and he has since apologized, but it is definitely something that many will not forget — specifically the LGBTQ community. GLAAD CEO/president Sarah Kate Ellis said “We were hoping this was going to turn into a teachable moment that Kevin Hart would still be hosting the Oscars and he would be using this moment to show, not only his evolution around the LGBTQ community, but also to then use the Oscar stage…to help build unity and awareness around the LGBTQ community and how we are marginalized in this country.”

The resurfacing of these tweets came shortly after the actor was dragged for giving a tone-deaf defense for throwing a “cowboys and Indians” themed birthday party for his son during Thanksgiving.
