The best players across hockey will convene in St. Louis this year for the annual NHL All-Star Game, and with it comes the yearly debate about whether or not the jerseys displayed on ice are aesthetically pleasing, or doomed to be forgotten at best, and ridiculed at worst.

The 2020 offering for the sartorial-inclined was revealed by the NHL on Wednesday.

Adidas returns as the manufacturer of this season’s sweaters, and the jerseys stick to the black-and-white options introduced last, with team logos placed in front of a blank music scale — because of the hometown Blues, get it? Logos are simplified to a monochrome styling, which works great for teams with a one-colour logo like the Maple Leafs, but leaves something to be desired for some of the league’s more well designed crests.

Love them or hate them, the NHL seems set on favouring simplicity on the jerseys with the divisional format that the game now uses, as opposed to the brilliant and flamboyant colourways that dominated the 90’s in the classic East vs West format.
