Patrick Mahomes and Troy Polamalu are not just the envy of the NFL world for the Super Bowl rings they've won — but also because of their incredible hair.

While the stylish duo is well-known for their talents on the field, their unique hairstyles have, too, become their trademarks.

Mahomes, 24, has inspired thousands of fans to adopt his curly mohawk hairstyle, while Polamalu's long wavy locks are the envy of anyone just hoping to grow their hair past their shoulders. That's why they were the perfect pair to star in Head & Shoulders' new Take It Up to 100 campaign — and they couldn't have had more fun doing it.

"Troy is an awesome guy. He's very supportive of me ever since I've met him last year," Mahomes tells PEOPLE of 39-year-old Polamalu. "I remember he texted me before the Super Bowl and wished me luck. He texted me after the win, congratulated me — just a great guy."

When asked, Polamalu doesn't shy away from praising the rising NFL star.

"He's a tremendous person. It's really great just to know him really as a person, and I've been a little bit remote from the game, so I haven't really been really close in contact with who's been really great and who's successful," Polamalu tells PEOPLE.

"I think when you run into somebody like Patrick who has all the success that any NFL player could have, you probably wouldn't even know that he was an NFL quarterback he's so down to earth and humble," he adds. "It's great to work with him."

Not only are they having fun starring in the shampoo commercials — with Head & Shoulders' newest ad spot out today — Mahomes and Polamalu are also celebrating the many milestones they've achieved over the past year.

Mahomes won his first Super Bowl title by leading the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in February. After that, Mahomes signed a $450 million contract extension with the franchise — one of the largest ever in sports.

The contract signing wasn't the only surprise Mahomes had in store for fans during the NFL offseason: in July, he became part-owner of the Kansas City Royals.

A day before Mahomes won the Super Bowl, Polamalu also achieved his own milestone by being elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, an honor reserved for the best players of a generation.

"I think maybe even to be recognized in the first place was a really humbling process," he says of his selection. "Just to be considered one of the elected, and then semi-finals, then finalists. It was all a really surprising journey for me."

"It's been really a very humbling thing for me to experience given the fact that there are amazing patriarchs of our game, like Jim Brown," Polamalu continues. "A lot of great people in our game that have such impact, not only on the game of football but really on our culture in times like today."

Polamalu won two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers and finished his 12-year career with four All-Pro First-Team selections, eight Pro Bowls, and a defensive player of the year award in 2010.

Though people around the country have taken the opportunity to experiment with their hair while working from home during the coronavirus outbreak, Mahomes and Polamalu say they haven't strayed from their go-to looks — or even tried sporting facial hair, for that matter.

"I don't grow a lot of facial hair in the first place," Mahomes says while laughing. "I always joke around. I tell people what I got has taken 24 years of building! But as far as the hair's going, it got a little rough for a while there. I was able to sneak some haircuts here recently. Obviously, still trying to be as safe as possible with the COVID situation, wearing a mask and doing things like that, but I've been able to clean up a little bit and do everything like that, but I usually keep it where it's at and try to stay fresh with it."

"I think if you give me like 13 or 14 more years, I can maybe get somewhat near a beard. I don't know," he adds. "If not, I'm going to have to take this goatee thing what I've got going."

Adds Polamalu: "I'm much different than any other hair model or representative or whatever you want to call it because I just let it go naturally and I did use the product. To me, it's nothing more than just taking care of my hair normally. I'd never get my hair cut or trimmed or anything like that. I can't say that things have really changed too much during COVID other than me being a homeschool teacher to my kids and to myself."

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year contract extension which is said to be the "largest contract in sports history," according to his agent

What it boils down to is: why mess with perfection? As Mahomes says, he'll take the crown over any of his teammates when it comes to who has the best hair.

"I would, 100 percent," he says. "We have guys that have all different types of hairstyles, but I think when you think of the hairstyle of the Chiefs, you got to think of the mohawk, the curls, the headband, the whole fit, and I think I definitely have that going in my direction."
