NFL odds: Bettor has confidence in Cowboys, places large wagers on their win total and to take NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys are a hot pick entering the 2020 season. Their offense could be the NFC’s version of the Kansas City Chiefs.

At least one bettor is buying the hype. At BetMGM on Friday, about a week before the Cowboys kick off the season, a bettor placed two five-figure wagers on Cowboys future bets. One was on Dallas to win more than 9.5 games this season, the other was on them to win the NFC East.

It’s hard to argue. There are reasons to believe the Cowboys could be very good this season.

Cowboys have a lot of exciting talent

Dallas had a rough start to the offseason in free agency, but rallied with a good draft.

Their two main goals in the offseason were to retain quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver Amari Cooper. They gave Prescott the franchise tag and signed Cooper to a long-term deal. They did lose defensive standouts like cornerback Byron Jones and defensive end Robert Quinn, but a stellar draft highlighted by receiver CeeDee Lamb made everyone forget about that.

Between Ezekiel Elliott, Cooper, Lamb, Michael Gallup and ascending tight end Blake Jarwin, the Cowboys might have the best set of skill position players in the NFL. That gives Prescott a lot to work with. Dallas also has a new coach in Mike McCarthy, and presumably most Cowboys fans would agree that’s an upgrade from Jason Garrett.

It could be a big year in Dallas.

Dallas was unlucky in 2019

The Cowboys were better than their 8-8 record last season. As stated in their team preview, they became the third team in NFL history to have a point differential of plus-113 or better and fail to finish above .500, according to Pro Football Reference, joining the 1950 Philadelphia Eagles (plus-113) and 1989 Cincinnati Bengals (plus-119).

The NFC East doesn’t have a lot of competition. The Washington Football Team is unlikely to contend. The New York Giants could, but that would require a big leap. It looks like a two-team race between the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, and the Eagles are dealing with injuries up and down their offense already.

There are a lot of signs pointing to the Cowboys doing much better than their .500 record from a season ago. One bettor sure hopes so.
