NFL to let teams wear alternate helmets in 2022, opening door for Rams throwbacks

The Los Angeles Rams will release alternate uniforms this year and next to coincide with their brand refresh, and their 2022 release just got a bit more interesting. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the NFL will allow teams to wear alternate helmets starting in 2022.

That’s excellent news for both the teams and their fans, opening the door for clubs to wear a wide array of throwback uniforms. The Bucs will be able to wear white helmets with their iconic creamsicle throwbacks, the Eagles can now rock their kelly green uniforms, and the Patriots can bring back their Pat Patriot helmets.

The Rams, of course, will also be able to wear their more traditional horned helmets if they want to wear throwback uniforms such as the white road jerseys from the 1980s and ‘90s. That’s not to say their redesigned helmets wouldn’t look fine with those jerseys, but the white throwbacks would look much better with the classic helmet.

Or, they can go back to the white uniforms with white horned helmets from the 1960s and 1970s. That would be a unique look compared to what the Rams currently wear, which would also please those who have been fans for the last 50-plus years.

Imagine the uniforms below but just slightly updated.

There are so many possibilities now for teams across the NFL thanks to the league’s approval of alternate helmets.
