The very first Avatar movie was released on Dec. 8, 2009 (a whole 14 years ago!), and the highly anticipated sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, was released in December of 2022.
The Avatar films are known for their extensive waiting periods and, according to Entertainment Weekly, the Avatar 3 release date won't be here until Dec. 19, 2025, Avatar 4 will premiere Dec. 21, 2029, and the final movie is set for Dec. 19, 2031.

Jon Landau, a producer on both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, tweeted explaining the reason for the movie delays. "Each Avatar film takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect."
Each Avatar film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect. The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025. pic.twitter.com/DrFX01qzTa
