Mada Abdelhamid, Nyesha Arrington

Night ten of the third season of Next Level Chef continued the individual competition that began last week with the six remaining chefs. That said, the chefs are still wearing their original-colored aprons to indicate their previous teams. Gordon Ramsy has three remaining contestants: Gabi Chappel, Izahya Thomas and Jordan Torrey. Nyesha Arrington has Mada Abdelhamid and Christina Miros, which means Richard Blais has only one chef left, Zach Laidlaw, but one is all it takes to win.

Season 2 contestant Tineke "Tini" Younger, who has her own show From Scratch on Bite and the Cooking for My Boyfriend cookbook, returned as a guest and was put to the test to recreate a dish from simply getting a quick look at a photo. In her case, all the ingredients were provided.

And that turned out to be the challenge for the night. The six chefs needed to recreate a dish of a photo they saw when the platform dropped, but in their case, it had to be from scratch.

Going into this challenge, Mada had the Time Token, which he won last week and which allows the holder to add 10 seconds to their platform grab, or to take away 10 seconds from one of the other competitors. Mada opted to take the extra 10 seconds for himself to look at the photo.

Then the six remaining chefs got cooking for a chance to boil, bake and fry their way into $250,000.

The first challenge of the night was the recreation from scratch of a dish from a photo the chefs saw when the platform dropped. When the platform left, so did the photo. But at least for this challenge, all the ingredients needed to make the dish were included in one basket under the photo.

Based on last week’s cook, Christina and Mada were in the top-level kitchen, Zach and Jordan were in the middle-level kitchen, which left Gabi and Izahya in the basement.

The winning dish was Christina’s shrimp dumplings.

Gordon said, “The secret to these dumplings is the caramelization in the pan and they are beautifully pleated.” Richard said, “They’re as tasty as they’re beautiful. That’s an exact replica.” Nyesha added, “Also, replicating the sauce based off of visuals is challenging, but that was balanced really nicely.”

As a result of having the top dish of the night, Christina won the Time Token for next week.

“I am feeling freakin’ spectacular,” Christina said. This was my first top dish of the day. I broke that top-level curse. I’m staying put. I am just so proud of myself.”

Then Gordon announced the two chefs going into the elimination challenge were Zach, whose ravioli had split allowing water to seep in and ruin the texture, and Mada, who forgot to put a slice of lemon on his veal schnitzel dish. Again, this week, a third chef was added. It was Izahya, who had under seasoned the rice on his chicken mole.

The challenge was a difficult technical one -- to produce a picture-perfect seafood risotto.

“I cooked my heart out,” Mada said. “You can see the sweat on my face. I’m at a loss for words right now. The hardest part is calling my wife and kids and telling them that I lost. I don’t want to disappoint them. I know they’re not going to be disappointed. I know they’re going to love me regardless. I gave it my all. I can hold my head up high. It’s the competitive me that’s upset. I represented myself, my family, my culture. I am walking out of here ten times the chef as walking in here. You guys changed my life.”

Next Level Chef airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
