The NFL‘s trade deadline will probably never reach the excitement of the deadlines in the other three major sports, but it’s getting better.

We’ve seen some interesting in-season trades the past few years, and here’s a potential Hall of Fame player who might move soon: San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the 49ers are shopping Bowman and “there are teams interested.” If the 49ers are willing to move Bowman and aren’t asking for a ridiculous return, there’s no reason Bowman shouldn’t change teams this month.

The 49ers are 0-5. They have Reuben Foster, a first-round pick this year who looks like a future superstar at inside linebacker. Bowman, a four-time All-Pro, is 29 years old and probably doesn’t want to waste the rest of this season on a rebuilding team. And there should be many teams interested. Contenders like the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos are among those who could use an impact inside linebacker. Truth be told, there aren’t many teams who wouldn’t be better with Bowman.

Bowman has dealt with a few serious injuries but is still playing well. He has 38 tackles in five games this season. He is one of the best inside linebackers of this era.

It’s always fun to see great players play their entire careers with the same team, but it’s usually unrealistic. The 49ers aren’t going anywhere and could use some draft picks or a young player. It would be great to see Bowman on a playoff contender again. A trade makes perfect sense.
