"Young and the Restless" executive producer Jill Farren Phelps said that the extended departure for Chancellor will also offer fans the opportunity to pay tribute to Cooper.

"In the coming weeks, Katherine's memory will be honored in several very special ways that allow us to pay tribute to Jeanne in the remarkable manner she deserves," Phelps said. "It is an extraordinary story that will bring the residents of Genoa City together to remember this woman they all loved."

Cooper, who played Chancellor on the soap for nearly 40 years and was the series' longest-running cast member, died in May. She was 84.
