Yahoo! TV Exclusive: Colin Ferguson to guest on 'Happily Divorced' in January

It's about time Fran Drescher stopped having all the romantic fun on TV Land's "Happily Divorced." Yahoo! TV has learned exclusively that her gay ex-husband Peter, played by John Michael Higgins, is finally getting a boyfriend.

The show has tapped Colin Ferguson ("Eureka") to play a guy Peter has been seeing for two months in secret. "I haven't told Fran about him because she meddles and I don't want to hear about it," Higgins told us minutes before the cast rehearsed the scene where he gets caught on a date celebrating their two-month anniversary. "Even if she does it because she cares, it's still a meddle."

In the Season 2 episode tentatively titled "Peter's Boyfriend," expected to air Jan. 16, Fran and her BFF Judi (Tichina Arnold) go to the movies after Peter declines to join them. "Fran is feeling disconnected from Peter because they haven't been hanging out. She figures it's because she's engaged and he is pulling away to prepare himself," explained executive producer (and real-life inspiration for the husband character) Peter Marc Jacobson. "But he actually has been spending time with his new boyfriend. Unfortunately for him, they end up at the same theater and he's got some explaining to do."

At the moment, Ferguson is booked for only this episode, but Drescher sees endless possibilities for his return. "The confrontation is hilarious and there are so many things the writers could do with Peter's first real boyfriend. We're not ending [the relationship] in this episode and we'd like to have him come back."

And as fans of the series know, art has a way of imitating life and Fran usually gets her way.

"Happily Divorced" airs Wednesdays at 10:30 PM on TV Land.
