Wordview Entertainment CEO Christopher Woodrow Departs Abruptly

In a suprise move, Worldview Entertainment CEO Christopher Woodrow has left the company abruptly.

Chief operating officer Molly Conners is running the company in the wake of Woodrow’s departure. The company had no comment on reports that Woodrow was under investigation for misconduct.

Woodrow had been active during the Cannes Film Festival. A few days before the festival opened, Worldview signed a five-year deal with The Weinstein Company to jointly finance and distribute at least four movies each year.

It also hired industry vet Clifford Werber as president of its motion picture group on May 12.

Woodrow founded Worldview in 2007. Equity investor Sarah Johnson Redlich, daughter of longtime Franklin Templeton chief Charles B. Johnson, is a partner in Worldview.

Worldview is already co-financing two upcoming TWC films: “Tulip Fever,” starring Christoph Waltz, Dane DeHaan and Alicia Vikander and Simon Curtis’ “The Woman in Gold,” starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds.

Worldview’s recent films include Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s dark comedy “Birdman,” starring Michael Keaton and Emma Stone; Eli Roth’s horror thriller “The Green Inferno”; James Gray’s drama “The Immigrant,” starring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner and David Gordon Green’s drama “Joe,” starring Nicolas Cage and Tye Sheridan.

Worldview’s “The Search,” directed by Michel Hazanavicius and starring Berenice Bejo and Annette Bening, premiered in competition at Cannes. The company is also financing John Hillcoat’s crime thriller “Triple Nine,” starring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie and Aaron Paul and Warren Beatty’s Howard Hughes movie.
