What to Watch Tonight: The Premieres of Arrow, AHS: Freak Show, and DirecTV's Kingdom

What to watch on Wednesday, October 8...

SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 8pm, The CW
Arrow
Felicity gets a new job, Diggle gets a new addition to his family, Lance gets a new rank, Team Arrow gets a new member in Laurel, and Oliver gets to fight a new Count Vertigo (Peter Stormare) as "The Calm" kicks off the Emerald Archer's third season.

8pm, ABC
The Middle
Axl stresses upon realizing that his time to select a major is running short in "Major Anxiety." (Shut up, I didn't just salute and say "Major Anxiety" to myself quietly, you did.) Elsewhere, Sue cultivates a coffee habit and Brick improbably decides he wants to attend a school dance.

8pm, NBC
The Mysteries of Laura
Laura investigates a congressman's alleged mistress in "The Mystery of the Sex Scandal." And faulty surveillance forces the squad to enter the world of online gaming to track a killer, I guess by keeping tabs on his level 53 orc mage?

8:30pm, ABC
The Goldbergs
Inspired by Prince Charles and Lady Diana's impending tying of the royal knot, Beverly decides to renew her vows with Murray in "The Facts of Bleeping Life." Murray, however, seems markedly less enthused by the idea. Meanwhile, Barry hopes to catch Lainey's notice through his and Adam's garage band.

SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, DirecTV
Kingdom
Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Matt Lauria, and Nick Jonas star in this drama set in the world of mixed martial arts fighting. "Set Yourself on Fire" starts it off with gym proprietors Alvey and Lisa pinning their hopes on Alvey's son Nate, a rising MMA star.

SEASON 1 FINALE, 9pm & 10pm, TNT
Legends
No sooner has Martin escaped an interrogation than he learns of Sonya and Aiden's abduction in "Wilderness of Mirrors." Then in "Identity," Martin learns that Verax may be cooking up an assassination scheme, which might be designed to ensure that Sean Bean doesn't survive a full season of television and thereby preserve the natural order of the universe.

9pm, NBC
Law & Order: SVU
In "Producer's Backend," Amaro... oh, wait a second, I see what you did there, SVU. This is your first warning, capice? Anyway, Amaro earns his way back to the squad after arresting a Hollywood starlet and resisting her attempts to charm her way to freedom. When the perp is later charged with statutory rape (because SVU), Benson looks deeper into the case.

9pm, Fox
Red Band Society
Jordi begins his treatment, Kara returns to school, and Emma attends her first dance in "There's No Place Like Homecoming." Meanwhile, Leo lands in a tight spot.

9pm, ABC
Modern Family
In "The Cold," Phil tries to doctor Mitch and Cam's wedding video to keep the family from learning that he's patient zero for their widespread infection. Elsewhere, Jay and Gloria help Manny manage the stress of the football team while coach Cam decides how much playing time he should see; and Lily's gifted friend Sydney gives Mitch a run for his intellectual money.

9:30pm, ABC
Black-ish
Andre Jr. is flummoxed by "The Nod," inspiring Dre to prompt his son widen his social circle by befriending more black kids. In other parental encouragement initiatives, Rainbow takes Diane to the hospital to show her the joys of being a doctor—but a stressful day throws a wrench in her plans.

SEASON 4 PREMIERE, 10pm, FX
American Horror Story: Freak Show
The Murphy-Falchuk Repertory Players return as the anthology series' fourth incarnation turns its focus to a financially struggling sideshow, one of the last of a dying breed. "Monsters Among Us" raises the curtain on the season with a grisly discovery at a farmhouse.

10pm, ABC
Nashville
Rayna sets her wedding date, Gunnar greets the return of an old flame, and Layla turns the screws on Will. Elsewhere in "I Can't Get Over You to Save My Life," Juliette meets her co-star-to-be, while doing her damnedest to hide a secret that could torpedo her big Hollywood break.

10pm, FXX
The League
"Breast Awareness Month" offers Andre yet another pretext to spruce up his wardrobe. The rest of the gang's feedback on his sartorial splendor will surely be as nuanced and constructive as ever.

10pm, NBC
Chicago P.D.
A bartender becomes an accidental casualty of the bounty on Halstead in "The Weigh Station." As Olinsky tries to put the kibosh on the hit, Voight and his team track the inaccurate assassin.

10pm, Comedy Central
South Park
"The Cissy" finds Cartman hitting Stan with a label that, if the title is any indication, suggests a thoughtful and sensitive consideration of gender identity. Also, Randy is buckling under the weight of an immense secret.

10:30pm, Comedy Central
Key & Peele
Two elderly women throw down with Lucifer, a man's mattress shopping trip takes a turn, and clubgoers grapple with hard truths about themselves.
