‘Voice’ Contestant Impresses With Leonard Cohen Song

On The Voice, Team Miley contestant Ali Caldwell impressed everyone Monday night with a powerful performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Did I Ever Love You.” The performance came just a week after the music legend passed away, and it quite possibly made Ali a frontrunner on the show.

Coming into the week, Ali didn’t even know the song, but that didn’t stop her from impressing special adviser Garth Brooks. The country legend said: “Ali is not just someone who can sing all the notes. You can tell that she has a wonderful way of treating a lyric even if it’s the first time she’s ever read it. That’s a star.”

Following the performance, Blake Shelton called Ali the new frontrunner, while Alicia Keys said that she had a “real moment.” Ali’s coach, Miley Cyrus, was also very proud of her protégé and ended her praise with, “I’m just happy that Leonard was able to hear this.”

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
